Is There Any Difference Between Male Facelift and Female Facelift?

The term “facelift” conjures up images of redness and swelling, but the benefits far outweigh these potential aftereffects. The procedure can help improve appearance by reducing wrinkles, boosting collagen production, and even reversing signs of aging, such as sagging skin and dark circles under your eyes. It’s also been known to reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer in future years. In a nutshell: The male and female versions of this procedure have different aims but are both beneficial. Check out our different versions for more details on how they differ.

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift is a surgical procedure where the surgeon retouches the sagging skin on the face, neck, and upper back. The goal of the process is to create a more youthful-looking face with fewer wrinkles and sagging skin. The procedure can be done by a board-certified plastic surgeon or a certified aesthetic surgeon. It is sometimes combined with a rhinoplasty procedure to give the patient a more youthful-looking nose. The results of a facelift can be dramatic. In the better-case scenario, patients have healthier-looking skin and can prevent further sun damage thanks to the downtime of the procedure.

What’s the Difference Between a Male and Female Facelift?

Facial Hair

Like body hair, facial hair varies among individuals. However, in many cases, men have more facial hair than women. The excess facial hair in men tends to determine the type of incision and position. In this case, there will be a difference between a male facelift and a female facelift. For example, during a men’s facelift, the lift could move the beard line closer to the patient’s ear.

Aesthetic Difference

Most men will value sharper and more defined features when it comes to an uplift. These apply to areas around the jaw and neck. On the other hand, women seek sleeker or more delicate facial features that magnify their beauty. The difference in the desired outcomes determines the type of procedure for a male or female patient.

Male Facelift Approaches

The male facial structure is different from that of females. For example, a mini facelift will not provide great results for men. Since men have heavier tissues, more aggressive lifting is required to bring out satisfactory results. Also, the procedure will pull the deep tissues surrounding the neck and face and avoid pulling the skin. The result will be a natural-looking face.

Also, because the male tissues are heavy, swelling may last longer than for female patients. Sometimes, the procedure may require longer use of compression drains and dressing. Male patients must avoid smoking after a facelift for at least one month. If possible, they should avoid smoking a month before the facelift.

Anatomy Difference

Women have weaker structures that make surgical manipulation less complicated when it comes to skeletal and alignment structures. On the other hand, men have heavier structures with thick skins that complicate an uplift. It is most challenging in areas around the neck, jaw, and lower face. For this reason, male facial procedures focus on the lower half of the face. Men have more vascular elements than women, which presents an increased risk of excessive bleeding and scarring post-procedure.

What Are the Drawbacks of a Facelift?

The biggest downside of a facelift for patients of both sexes is cost. Like all cosmetic surgeries, it’s expensive and requires a significant investment in your future health. When you decide to have the procedure, it’s essential to find a qualified physician aware of this surgery’s pros and cons. Also, they should guide you through the process.

If you’re deciding whether to have a facelift, it’s essential to consider your budget, desired outcome, and risks. If you’re willing to take the plunge and want to go for it, the procedure is relatively safe, and there are different risks associated with each type of surgery. You’ll have to put up with a lot of pain for a short period—usually 1 to 3 months after surgery. Don’t worry too much about the pain, as your surgeon will prescribe painkillers.

A facelift is a more invasive cosmetic surgery that works to reshape your face and give you the desired results. The procedure might cost a bit more, but the results are usually worth the effort and sacrifice. Ensure you contact a reputable surgeon in your area to minimize risks and increase the chances of success.
